Sooo much information and REAL discussions about REAL life challenges and solutions!! Love your mom journeys of laughter, adventures and pure joy! Yes…you will miss the mess of a homemade fort…that is one thing I know FOR SURE.
Okay...this essay makes me think I finally need to get a Dog Man book for my kids (eek!). And thanks so much for the VERY KIND shout-out! I'm beyond touched!!!! xoxo
Once you rip the band aid off, you’ll be amazed, the laughter is endless! I held out until my oldest decided to use her *own money* to buy her first Dog Man book last year. As you can imagine, we’ve collected a few since! ; )
It's funny the things we let go of, especially a few years into motherhood...we quickly realize we don't have the time or the mental/emotional bandwidth to fight all the battles! I released (most of) the food battles and somehow they continue to grow and thrive without veggies every meal! And same for clothing and the taped up drawings on their walls. I remember how much joy decorating my room gave me as a kid, and to take that away because it's not "beautiful" or the walls may get scuffed up a little would be a loss to what they gain in autonomy and self-expression.
We haven't gone down the Dog Man rabbit hole yet but I know it's coming! Recently we zipped through the Popcorn Bob series which is silly and weird and funny and my 5yo loved them. No fart jokes, but they are about a living popcorn kernel named Bob which was actually kind of delightful!
Thanks for the Popcorn Bob recommendation! We’re big book lovers in our house and I hadn’t heard of this one. Excited to check it out! I just ordered the first book (hopefully it arrives before our spring break trip).
Have you all read any of the Bird & Squirrel or Sir Ladybug series? Silly, quirky, and a huge hit with the kids (no fart jokes included!).
This was a walk down memory lane for me. Growing up with only sisters, I wasn’t exposed to all the potty talk grossness until I had a son. He was especially proud of his ability to fart on demand . . . and to music!
I bowed down recently to letting my almost-8-year-old daughter brush her own hair without having me fix it before she goes out the door. That was a hard one!!!!
My nephew loves this disgusting series and I needed your wise words to help me remember that joy in life comes from letting people love what they love... and maybe even pretending to love it with them. Thank you!
I'm right there with you with Dog Man! My son devours them and they were the first books he really wanted to stay up late reading. Are they totally rude and disgusting? Yes! Will I keep giving them to my kids? Absolutely.
Yesterday, my MIL let Nico pick out his own clothes and he chose… orange socks, red shorts, and a yellow tank top. A TANK TOP!!! (Why we own a small boys tank top is beyond me)

This hits home! Dav Pilky practically has his own wing in our home library and I’m totally in agreement. “Read what you love until you love to read”.

Ohhhh the joy of boys! 😂🤦🏻♀️
Oh my goodness. 😂 Thankfully that is not a talent I have witnessed!

Props mama! It’s the little things that are sometimes that hardest ha!
I surrendered to this one as well this week. I agree, that was a hard one!

I love that: “letting people love what they love” 💙
